Great mix of modern doom & sludge, but played through a classic rock filter (70's hard) with a great shade of goth. A timeless & classic record Favorite track: Burning Lungs.

FDJ (Desert Psychlist) Bit of a weird one this, sort of Bauhaus meets Candlemass with a little sludge thrown in for good measure, unusual but really good.
Favorite track: Chosen One.

All Alone 03:57
Memories light the way tonight, sprawled across the floor Shapes are changing left and right, I can't find the door Alone I pray for second sight, shining bright When I'm all alone Regrets they keep me up at night, torment me even more The deeds I'd done I thought were right, instructed by the Lord And now I sing to save my soul, pay the toll When I'm all alone They come to punish me tonight, to cleanse my sins and more It's pointless to put up a fight, where grapes of wrath are stored I once was lost but now I'm bound, underground And I'm all alone

Chosen One 04:41
Blind, those bastards took my eyes Abacinated cries I've seen my last sunrise Revolt, my freedom's been revoked Under watchful control The prophecy foretold Chosen One Oath, a father's oath was sworn A child he was adorned To raise the Ancient Horn Doom, grown in a cursed womb To smell like dead perfume Your world a musty tomb
3.
Rise my son it's time to go I've called you here to do my will I know how death can change a man There are things that you should know Let's build a fire atop this hill I'll share with you the master plan Escape this life which we've been damned Mankind's come and gone The old world we knew has moved on The Ancient Ones are in control Unsuspected shadow revolt Perform the ritual at dawn Done before the eyes of God Demonstrate unwavered faith Revealing just what we've become Sin lies under our facade Sacrifice to consecrate The devastation in His wake
4.
It's been so many days, trapped inside this place Committed crimes, I've done my time, a young man will survive When the doctor said goodbye, he said not to trust my eyes Back in this house alone, so many unturned stones Time to start anew, hallucinating you, what did I just do? Strange phenomenon, and my medicine's all gone I don't deserve no love I'm the one you ought to get rid of The one you get rid of

Electrified 05:04
My head turned to the sky, my wish to fly My jetpack ran out of gas on my way to kick some ignorant ass Break the bones Then burn the powder and they tell you what you want to know Prophecy The Ancient Ones have always been and will always be My fate writ in the stone, in broken bones The Chosen One picked to die, sacrifice to the Electric Eye They asked, "Who saw him die?" "I", said the fly. Some call it suicide but now I see the whole thing, electrified...

Sun burns, I've been walking down the road Foot steps, wind blown cover my way back home Loose lips, sunk ships, lost treasures at the bottom of the pit Collect regrets I've learned lessons that to most they don't apply Stay down, the audacity to the think that you could fly Worthless, jealous, taught through sermons that I heard in Mama's churches Repent. Pretend. Sinking, Devil's dragging me to Hell My fate, since I was an embryonic cell
9.
This morning I awoke in shallow grave, fingers push through dirt I taste the earthworms, the tombstone, my whole body hurts I'll tell you my sad story The time I left the world to make my father proud Was surely bound for glory Til destiny sent me tumbling to the ground Am I the living dead, is this a dream, do I walk alone? I have yet eyes to see, but no one else hears pathetic moans I'll tell you my sad story The time I left the world to make my father proud Was surely bound for glory I wandered in a cloud of death to die without a sound I stumble in the night, do I recall hearing last rites? My God's forsaken me, left me to rot, ignores my pleas Always did as was told, made my bed, want to grow old Only to die so young, serving the crown, burning my lungs...

The Obelisk: "... Throughout a vinyl-ready 37 minutes that makes a centerpiece of the roughed up The Cure cover “Kyoto Song,” the two-piece bridge sludged nod, classic heavy rock, progressive doom ambience, stonerly awareness — see “Cisneros’ Lament” — and a healthy dose of organ to result in a genre-blender sound that both chases individuality and manifests it in rudimentary form, perhaps arriving at some more melodic cohesion in the of-its-era closer “Burning Lungs” after rougher-edged processions, but even there not necessarily accounting for the full scope of the rest of the songs enough to be a full summary. The songs are there, though, and as Hope Hole continue to chase these demons, that will be the foundation of their progress."

Cave Dweller Music: "...a highly blues infused doom, stoner, sludge band with plenty of traditional heavy metal influence and some psychedelic elements in the mix. This is bluesy doom at its finest and possesses both the depressive atmosphere of the latter and the swagger and energy of the former. While there's a lot to like about the album, the thing I love most is the guitar work. There are more tasty bluesy riffs present on this release than you can shake a stick at. Honestly there are a number of riffs here that have wormed their way into my brain since my first listen and had me coming back for more. The driving riff on track 2 Chosen One is a perfect example of this, that is some quality guitar work right there.
Just when you think a song is going to launch into full on Sabbath worship the band change it up and take things in a different direction. Songs lead from bouncy doom gallops into dark, heavy and brooding parts that are almost unexpected. The vocals play a key role in this shift of energy. They sit on the gruffer, more gravelly side of things to begin with which works well for the bluesy doom that the band create. However, for those darker more brooding parts, with a bit of tweaking they take on a far darker and more ominous tone that perfectly suits the shift in the music. When you think you've developed an understanding on the music the band throw you a curve ball like their cover of The Cure's Kyoto Song which completely throws you off again.
This is a solid debut from a band that I can see doing very well for themselves. They have plenty of variety present on this album and everything they do they do well. You'll come for the guitar work and stay for everything else."

about

Hope Hole Toledo, Ohio

Once upon a time there was hope. Until we threw it all down that hole over there.
Come closer. Lie down in the dirt. Hang your head over the edge of the abyss. Do you hear that? It calls. What sweet music they make.
Hope Hole is Matt Snyder and Mike Mullholand. We take our inspiration from the uninspired, the enlightened who know there's no escape. No one here gets out...
